Description

Part 1: Career advancement and job search success have relevance to higher education professionals throughout their careers. This session provides an outline of the skills required for professionals to advance in their careers, along with concrete examples of how professionals can gain or improve their skills in critical leadership areas. The session will have a strong focus on goal setting with specific suggestions relating to outlining relevant experience, presenting your materials, interviewing, the importance of references, and developing a professional brand.

Part 2: This session will cover the questions surrounding negotiating for a new leadership role, determining your value, recognizing when to negotiate, and learning to see and define possibilities. Participants will explore the due diligence needed in the interview phase of the process, the rules and roles for negotiating, what is negotiable in terms of a job offer, and accepting a negotiated offer.

Learning Objectives

By the end of Part 1, participants will:

  • Articulate a compelling professional brand that aligns with their career goals, leveraging their unique strengths and accomplishments as women university business officers.
  • Gain proficiency in crafting effective resumes and cover letters tailored to showcase their skills and achievements, with a focus on interviewing strategies that support career advancement.
  • Develop practical strategies to enhance their professional network, fostering meaningful connections within and beyond the university community, thereby advancing their careers as women leaders in business within the academic context.

By the end of Part 2, participants will:

  • Identify and articulate their value as women university business officers and prepare a persuasive case for their desired compensation and benefits.
  • Apply effective negotiation strategies that leverage their strengths, address potential challenges, and achieve win-win outcomes for themselves and their organizations.
  • Practice and refine their negotiation skills through role-playing exercises, feedback, and coaching from the instructor and peers.

Her leadership topics will focus on leading through change, authentic leadership, and ways to focus on the moment while investing in the future.
