Terms, Conditions, and Policies

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations received by Monday, March 22, 2021 will be refunded, less a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after Monday, March 22, 2021. Substitutions can be made at any time. If you have any questions, please contact the office at [email protected].

Nonpayment Policy:

I understand that full payment of the web series registration fees is required before the start of the first workshop. If full payment has not been remitted on or before March 22, 2021 the meeting details will not be sent to the attendee. Once payment has been received, meeting details will be released. If you have any questions, please contact the office at [email protected] or by phone at (206) 209-5267.

Technical Failure Policy:

I understand that if there is a technical failure at the registrant's home or workplace that prevents access to the live event, the registrant is not eligible for a refund. It is the responsibility of the registrant to confirm system requirements and test their computers prior to the start of the event. If a technical failure is the fault of the service provider and the session is not able to be broadcast as planned after two hours, WACUBO reserves the right to reschedule the session. If the registrant cannot attend the rescheduled session live, they will be provided with the recording after the session's conclusion, or they may request a prorated refund.

Recording Acknowledgement:

I understand that each virtual session may be recorded, including chat transcripts. Video recorded during the event may be used for promotional purposes, advertising, and other print and online materials at the sole discretion of WACUBO. All registered attendees must consent to this if they plan to attend the live sessions.

Code of Conduct:

WACUBO events are community events intended for education, networking, and collaboration. We value the participation of everyone and want all attendees to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Accordingly, all attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees throughout all events hosted in the WACUBO space. To make clear what is expected, all attendees, speakers, Business Partners, organizers, and volunteers at any virtual event are required to conform to the following Code of Conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. In registering for and/or participating in this event, you consent to comply with the following Code of Conduct. 

Examples of encouraged behavior that contributes to a positive environment include:

  • Using welcoming and inclusive language
  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
  • Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
  • Focusing on what is best for everyone at the event
  • Showing empathy towards other participants

We do not tolerate the following:

  • Spam (verbally or in chats), including saying or re-posting the same word/content repeatedly in order to disrupt the conversation
  • Harassment, bullying, and intimidation
  • Harassment and bullying are defined as:
    • Negative comments about race/ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, physical appearance, citizenship, or other protected categories
    • Intimidation or threats, including sharing images or text especially to threaten
    • Unwelcome sexual attention, including sharing images or text especially to sexually harass
    • Threatening or other endangerment of minors or any persons
    • Any activity meant to convey or cultivate hostility
    • Ad hominem insults or other attacks
    • Encouraging the above behavior

Schedule at a Glance

This 3-part workshop series will be held over the course of April 2021 through May 2021. Each session will run for 90 minutes. CPE credits, if available, will be announced at a later date.

Join us for an engaging discussion from within MIT’s School of Engineering drawing upon faculty, researchers, & students from MIT Schools of Management, Architecture & Planning, and Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences.  MIT's Age Lab is funded by companies & non-profits worldwide and its goal is to apply a systems approach to address the challenges and opportunities of longevity, consumer behavior and decision making with a focus on trends in demographics, technology, and lifestyles.

Today, a college-educated person with a comfortable income is likely to live into their 80s. A life this long can be divided into four periods, averaging roughly 8,000 days each. The period from birth to college graduation is approximately 8,000 days. College graduation to midlife, or 46 years of age, is another 8,000 days. Midlife to the retirement age of 66 is also 8,000 days. After that, there’s generally another 8,000 days for retirement. Retirement planning doesn’t exactly take into account the realities of an 8,000-day retirement; a script hasn’t been written for that final. 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session participants will:

  • Anticipate what employees will face in retirement—whether that’s Day 7, Day 362, or Day 3,459
  • Convey how you can co-create a story that people can realistically see themselves as the main character
  • Maintain your core competency and value but evolve to serve as a curator of a yet largely uncharted life phase of 8,000 days
  • Help employees understand that planning for what they’ll do in retirement can be as important as planning for what retirement will cost
  • Describe the four phases of an 8,000 day retirement and the key issues employees and retirees can face in each phase

In general, organizations leverage either a centralized (functions co-located) or decentralized (functions in multiple locations) operating models. However, COVID-19 has necessitated that most organizations figure out how to operate virtually (all functions working from home). This dramatic change has placed new challenges on people, processes, and technology to meet the needs of a new work environment. Join this session to learn from other higher education institutions about some of their most common challenges, solutions implemented, and lessons learned operating in a remote work environment.

Higher Education work environments are changing and campus expectations are shifting. We will consider changes and opportunities in campus areas including human capital, technology, and facilities in creating and sustaining an innovative environment post-pandemic.In March 2020, we packed 10 years of change in two weeks. Some of these changes are irreversible and some will go back. Some we don’t want to go back. In this interactive workshop, we will build on lessons learned from the pandemic. We will share specific changes that were accelerated and trends formed that need to be built upon going forward

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Describe what was learned from 2020 and carrying this forward post-pandemic
  • Describe what the next-level changes will be in human capital, technology, and facilities
  • Describe how to capitalize on opportunities on your campus
  • Describe how “what if thinking” can be a game changer across campus
  • Describe ways to make positive change on your campus
