How long have you been at your institution?

8 years

What is your volunteer position for WACUBO?

Starting 2021/22 I will be Vice Chair of the Professional Development Workshops Committee. I have also been a member of the Annual Conference Host Committee for 3 years.

How long have you volunteered with WACUBO?

6 years

What do you like most about the opportunities WACUBO gives you as a professional?

WACUBO has given me the opportunity to meet and collaborate with individuals from other colleges and universities. We might all work for different organizations, but we share the same concerns and issues related to higher education. Serving on PDWC has given me the opportunity to assist in providing professional development to WACUBO members. Professional development is so important and I enjoy being a part of the growth of another individual.

What is your greatest professional achievement?

In 2019, I completed my Ed.D. This was by far my greatest professional achievement. However, lately I think not only surviving, but thriving, during the pandemic is both my, and everyone’s, accomplishment!

What is the most important professional goal you are currently pursuing, i.e, preparing to give a presentation, launching an initiative or program at work or in your community, etc.?

I am leading a Strategic Budgeting Workgroup at CSUN. We are reviewing the current incremental budget allocation process for the division of Academic Affairs and proposing a new allocation process.

Is there a resource, i.e, a book, blog, website, etc., that you would recommend to other WACUBO professionals?

I am always referencing College and University Budgeting: A guide for Academics and Other Stakeholders by Larry Goldstein. For a less technical book on budgeting, I recommend How University Budgets Work by Dean O. Smith.

What is the best piece of professional advice you have ever received?

Always be authentic. In every situation, just be you!

Are there any particular stories, insights, etc., from your experiences as a WACUBO volunteer that you would like to share with our colleagues?

WACUBO is a strong organization built on the work and dedication of volunteers. The volunteers work extremely hard to bring member institutions the most relevant information through professional development, webinars, and the annual conference. I take pride in being one of those volunteers!
