A Letter from the WACUBO President

Ruth Johnston
Strategic Chief Financial Officer
New Mexico State University

Happy Summer, fellow WACUBO members. I hope you were able to attend the virtual annual meeting in late May and the recent WACUBO happy hour. We were delighted with the attendance at the annual meeting, and so happy we could share the program’s value with the many institutions who made this option available to their staff. My expectations were certainly exceeded by the program content, engagement of those who attended, our WACUBO staff and wonderful emcee, and the platform. So many of you shared your desire for continued on-line opportunities like this, so we are beginning those conversations with the Annual Program Committee and the Professional Development and Workshops Committees.

A Success: WACUBO 2021 Virtual Annual Conference

Thank you to everyone who participated in the WACUBO 2021 Virtual Annual Conference. Our first-ever fully virtual conference went well with more than 3,500 participants from more than 65 institutions!

If you were not able to attend in May, you can still get in on the education by purchasing access to the Virtual Venue to watch session recordings.

Not only was the overall conference a great success, but the generosity of WACUBO members was once again humbling. More than $10,000 was raised for the service project, including a $5,000 donation from our wonderful Business Partner TIAA. Donations are still welcome to support Fairview Elementary of Anchorage, Alaska.

We look forward to seeing you in Colorado Springs at WACUBO 2022!

2021–2022 WACUBO Mentoring Program Update
Jennifer Williams, Mentoring Program Chair

The 2021/22 WACUBO Mentoring Program is underway! The program kicked off recently with a virtual orientation workshop, where participants were able to learn about the program components, connect with one another, as well as meet one-on-one with their mentors in a virtual break-out session.

Since its inception in 2016, this unique year-long program intentionally targets mentorship at the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/Chief Business Officer (CBO) level and has paired experienced CFOs/CBOs with individuals aspiring to serve in these roles as their next career step.

As we enter the 6th year of the WACUBO Mentoring Program, we are delighted to recognize the 2021/22 cohort of outstanding mentees and dedicated mentors.
